CNG car sales shot up to 2,25,196 units in CY2021 and recorded its best yearly volume yet! Maruti Suzuki which was amongst the earliest OEMs to introduce CNG-powered cars in India clocked the highest-ever yearly CNG car sales of 1,87,406 units in 2021. Maruti CNG models contributed to over 83% of CNG cars sales in India!
Do note that only 2 OEMs (Maruti and Hyundai) had CNG offerings in 2021. However; Tata jumped the CNG bandwagon too and dispatched 206 units at the end of 2021 to its dealerships.
CNG cars sales trend in India -
CNG cars sales have shot up to an all-time high of 7.3% in 2021 and is trying to gain volumes from value-conscious buyers and to a certain extent diesel car buyers too (on the lower end of the price band).
Factory fitted CNG option is working quite well for Maruti and Hyundai
CNG is new diesel for Maruti Ertiga
Maruti Wagon R and Hyundai Aura CNG mix crossed 40% and 50% level respectively
However, Dzire is struggling without diesel engine and CNG didn’t proved to be very helpful either
