Over 1.7k units of Safari were shipped to Tata dealers in February 2021. Safari is currently the flagship and the costliest model in Tata Motors portfolio.
The All-New Tata Safari was launched on 22nd February 2021 with introductory prices starting at Rs 14.69 lakh (ex-showroom, Delhi). Tata will be riding on the nostalgia factor of the brand 'Safari' to help it gain volumes in the segment. Safari is also a crucial model in the OEMs lineup to counter MG's Hector & Hectors Plus sales.
With the launch of 2021 Safari; Tata has cracked the formula to surpass MG Hector's volumes. Tata Harrier+Safari dispatches collectively were 3,737 units against sales of 3,662 units of MG Hector & Hector Plus.
While Harrier accounted for 2,030 units dispatches in February 2021; Safari Wholesales was 1,707 units. The combined dispatches was 3,737 units and helped Tata Motors to place itself in the Top slot in the segment.
Coincidentally MG has stepped up efforts to sustain its dominance. Hector and Hector Plus combined recorded its lifetime all-time highest monthly sales volumes. Its earlier highest volume was in Oct'20 with 3,625 units.
Will Tata able to cash in Safari volumes in a sustained manner to dominate the segment? At least; the initial indications say so.
