TOP 10 Superbikes in India for FY2021

We have compiled the superbikes and sports bikes (>800 cc) sales for FY2021 in this article.


The >800cc motorcycle segment was the worst affected category in FY2021 and the sales dipped by 41 percent when compared to FY2020. The Covid 19 pandemic and lockdowns across the country were some of the biggest reasons for the decline.

  • Kawasaki emerged as the biggest OEM in terms of sales volume and contributed to around 39 percent of sales in the segment. Kawasaki has 5 offerings in the segment and India's highest-selling performance bike is from Kawasaki's stable.

  • It was closely followed by Triumph Motorcycles with a share of 34.7 percent in the segment and Triumph has a representation with 14 models in the segment.

  • Harley Davidson ranked third and has the highest number of models in sales in the segment. It could contribute just over 20 percent volumes in FY2021. The American OEM also exited the Indian market in FY2021 and has handed over the operations to Hero Motocorp. Will Hero be able to add volumes to the brand?

  • Honda's volumes came for primarily 2 models (Africa Twin & CBR 1000RR) in FY2021.

Top 10 Selling Superbikes (>800 cc) in India for FY2021 -

  • Kawasaki Z900 was the highest-selling Superbike for FY2021 and 299 units were sold in the previous financial year. Ninja 1000 ranked second with sales of 234 units in FY2021. Kawasaki has an unparalleled lead over the competition with 3 models in the Top 10 and over 46% contribution.

  • Triumph Tiger 900 ranked third in the list and was the best-selling Triumph for FY2021.

  • Harley Davidson 883 Iron was able to register 8% YoY growth and took the fourth spot. 883 Iron emerged as the highest-selling Harley model for FY2021.

  • Triumph Street Twin lost 42 percent YoY volumes as the model was expecting a facelift and the 2021 Street Twin was launched in Apr'21 priced at ₹ 7.95 lakh (Ex-showroom). It is also currently the most affordable Bonneville model.

  • Honda Africa Twin reported sales of 88 units and was the largest selling Honda superbike for FY2021.

  • Harley Fat Boy sales slumped 71 percent YoY and ranked seventh. The volumes dipped from 269 units in FY2020 to 78 units in FY2021.

  • Kawasaki Versys 1000 which has the perfect blend of performance, practicality, and touring abilities came in eighth with a YoY sales increase of 40 percent.

  • Triumph Rocket III and Boneville T120 ranked ninth and tenth respectively. Both the models recorded positive YoY growth in FY2021.
