In this February 2025 Maruti Suzuki cars sales analysis article, we’ll look at the car sales of Arena and Nexa. We’ll also compare the YoY and MoM change to find out which Maruti cars sales improved and which ones declined. To support the trends, we’ll also provide our opinions where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend of all Maruti cars.
Safety First?
Maruti Suzuki officials have made statements in the past justifying the limited safety features. However, often, they are in contradiction with what they are actually doing behind the scenes. Maruti Suzuki were the first to start offering 2 airbags and ABS as standard equipment in 2015 with the Baleno. Back then, safety features were usually reserved for the higher variants. So, if you wanted ABS, you also had to pay for a music system. If you wanted even 2 airbags, you also had to pay for the alloy wheels. Moreover, the Baleno was the first car under Rs. 5.0 lakh ex-sh to offer 2 airbags and ABS. The car also made ISOFIX anchors a standard feature back when even most experts in the Indian auto community didn’t know what it was.
This move was in stark contrast to the trend of feature distribution at the time. This move is actually what got the ball rolling towards making 2 airbags standard in all cars. Also note that this was long before 2 airbags became a requirement.
Then, in Jan 2023, Maruti announced that they will start offering a 3-point seatbelt for the rear centre occupant. At that point, no car under Rs. 10.0 lakh offered this feature and all of them got only a lap belt and the Fronx would have been the first. While Maruti weren’t the first to bring this feature, they certainly conveyed that this was an essential safety feature, which, people were soon going to start expecting from every other car. So, Hyundai jumped the gun and introduced it with even their most affordable cars — the Nios and Aura; thus making it standard across the range.
They have also hinted that crash test safety results are not indicative of the life saving attributes of a car and are more of a marketing. But, they went ahead and got 5 star BNCAP rating for the Dzire. With the introduction of the Dzire, the flag bearer of road safety, Tata Motors, are left scratching their heads as their Tigor not only doesn’t have a 5-star safety rating, it also doesn’t have 6 airbags.
Maruti Suzuki officials have often said that their Alto is not suitable for 6 airbags as it would make the car more expensive and out of reach of several buyers. And a car without airbags is still a whole lot safer than a 2-wheeler.
Once again, such statements turned out to be just smoke screens. In Feb 2025, Maruti Suzuki made 6 airbags standard in the Brezza, Celerio … and … wait for it … the Alto K10. Now that even the Alto has 6 airbags, we can expect Maruti to add 4 more airbags in almost all of their cars but we still don’t see the Ignis getting this feature as it’s almost close to its end of life with no generation update in the pipeline.
Tata Motors bragged about offering 5 star safety for so long that they managed to force Maruti to join in. This will make safety a baseline expectation from buyers rather than something to talk about. Now that Maruti are in, Tata Motors will lose their edge as they don’t have much to bank on besides good design and safety. Maruti Suzuki, meanwhile, have:
Better reliability
Wider service network
Longer service intervals
Insane fuel efficiency
Lower maintenance costs
Refined powertrains and
Good resale value
And what’s the response from Tata Motors? Special editions of Safari and Harrier painted in matte black and called stealth. Exterior paint job, which makes them difficult to see in the dark and increases the probability of an accident.
We wish good luck to Tata Motors!

Top 3 Performers (February 2025 Sales)
Fronx (21,461)
WagonR (19,879)
Swift (16,269)
Top 3 Gainers (YoY % Change)
Here are the top 3 YoY gainers of February 2025 in the Maruti portfolio:
Fronx (+51.48%)
Swift (+23.58%)
Celerio (+17.85%)
Besides the Fronx, Swift and Celerio, the data on other cars is quite meaningless as they are low volume players in Maruti’s portfolio. Hence, even a small jump in production tends to project a distorted image of what is actually happening. The Celerio’s jump in popularity is quite surprising as the current generation of the car hasn’t been doing all that well. The addition of 4 more airbags must have created enough buzz to warrant higher production to meet the projected demand.
Among low volume cars, the Ciaz, Jimny and Ignis gained 128%, 19.5% and 13.5% YoY, respectively.
Top 3 Losers (YoY % Change)

Body-Type Based
In Feb 2025, Maruti Suzuki witnessed a YoY jump in the SUV category while hatches and sedan numbers remained more or less the same. Surprisingly, the Maruti’s MPVs dropped almost 11% YoY. The following chart shows the YoY comparison of Maruti’s production for various body styles:
