February 2025 Car Sales – Snapshot

Team Autopunditz

Around 3.8 Lakh passenger cars were sold in the Indian market in February 2025. Sales increased by a meager 2.3% over February last year and declined by 5.2% compared to January 2025.

The dealer dispatches are usually slow in January as dealerships have the previous year's stocks. The overall market sentiments are also low, citing price increase and drop in offers on new CY models. Also, there is a lull in the current economic scenario, and the spending trend on consumer discretionary products is expected to increase gradually.

The OEM rankings varied heavily in February, and Mahindra ousted Hyundai from the second spot! The fight for No.2 is all more interesting, and Mahindra, Hyundai & Tata are on each other's toes every month for the same. In Feb'25 Mahindra, Toyota, Kia, and Skoda grew Year-on-Year primarily. However, it was Skoda alone that showed a substantial volume increase over Jan'25. Skoda now ranks above MG and is now tailing Honda in OEM rankings. Skoda saw its numbers bolstered by Kylaq and has easily emerged as Skoda's highest selling model.

  • Maruti Suzuki sales registered a flat growth, reaching 1,60,791 units in Feb'25 compared to 1,60,272 units in Feb'24. The OEM also lost 0.8% Market Share.

  • Mahindra has been riding on a very strong success wave of Roxx and the launch of much anticipated EVs (BE 6 & XEV 9) has further strengthened the volumes of the Indian automaker. It is astonishing to see Thar doing much higher numbers than models like Bolero, XUV 3XO and XUV 700!

  • Hyundai numbers are stagnated with no major model launches. The OEM is pushing the existing models and sold 47,727 units in Feb'25, registering a drop of 4.9 percent over Feb'24.

  • Tata seems to have lost its mojo. The OEM sold 47,727 units in the domestic market during the month, registering a decrease of 4.92 per cent over Feb '24.

  • Kia reported 24% YoY increase in dispatches owing to added Syros numbers. Kia is now just 1.4k units behind Toyota and will be wanting to regain the No.5 spot.
