Performance-Based Insights

Top 3 Performers (July 2024 Sales)

Hyundai were already offering some discounts on the Exter and Venue. Now, the pressure is more visible as the two cars are getting Lifestyle edition, which is a dealer-level accessory pack at a significantly discounted price. The Exter also recently got a 2-cylinder CNG option like the Tata Punch. So, it’s clearly going toe-to-toe with the Punch and we may see some fireworks from Maruti Suzuki in 2025 as they bring something to replace the ageing Ignis.

Meanwhile, the Creta managed to achieve the best-ever production number to become the top seller across the board, beating Maruti Suzuki. Speaking of Maruti, they are struggling to hit the number 1 spot with either of their cars in the recent months. Sometimes, it's the Punch taking the top spot, while on other occasions, it’s the Hyundai Creta.

Since the demand for SUVs just doesn’t seem to lose steam, Hyundai are also strengthening their SUV portfolio with a launch of the updated Alcazar planned ahead of the festive season. We expect the Alcazar to get some of the features from the Creta while also attempting to establish itself as something more than just a 3-row version of the Creta. The Alcazar’s production numbers hit a new low, hinting that Hyundai may be retooling the production line to suit the new 2024 version’s features and design.

Body-Type Based

Just like other carmakers, Hyundai too are witnessing a drop in demand for their hatchbacks and sedans while the SUVs continue to expand their market share. Unlike other carmakers, don’t expect Hyundai to give up on these body styles in the next few years as these help in times of economic stress. That’s when people who would have otherwise bought a big and burly SUV tend to choose more affordable and efficient options like hatchbacks and sedans. Moreover, having a smaller car in the portfolio allows buyers with a limited budget to experience and get a taste of Hyundai before trusting them with a big-ticket purchase several years down the road.
