In this June 2024 Tata car sales analysis, we’ll look at the car sales of Tata for the previous month. We’ll also compare the YoY and MoM change to find out which Tata cars’ sales improved and which ones declined. Lastly, the table with monthly sales for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend of all Tata cars.
June 2024 — Tata Car Sales Figures - YoY Change
The most noteworthy car in Tata’s portfolio is the Punch. It is the bestselling car in June 2024, handily beating the Swift. We have said it before and it’s worth repeating that any non-Maruti car beating a Maruti car is a big deal. Not only do Maruti Suzuki have a greater number of customers in their comfort zone, they also have an insanely large sales and service network. So, for any non-Maruti car to capture the top spot, that too quite regularly, means Maruti’s grip on the Indian car buyers is weakening.
The Punch is the only gainer in Tata’s portfolio. It has a huge lead over its closest competitor, the Hyundai Exter, which recently got its first special edition (Knight). If you know how the industry works, special editions are usually launched when a car starts to see some drop in demand and sales momentum.

Performance-Based Insights
Top 3 Performers (June 2024 Sales)
The Nexon witnessed a 12.74% drop in factory dispatches. The well-priced and well-equipped Mahindra 3XO is most likely the cause for this. Tata first launched more affordable automatic variants and then dropped the prices of some of the Nexon variants.
The threat of 3XO for Nexon became apparent when in June, Tata started offering up to Rs. 1.0 lakh discounts on the Nexon. We don’t know when we last heard of discounts on the Nexon. Tata are continuing with the fat discounts in July 2024 as well.

Body-Type Based
Among the top YoY losers, we have the Tigor, Altroz and Tiago. While the Altroz still gets some attention from the product planners at Tata, the Tiago and Tigor have no replacement in sight. In a recent earnings call, Tata emphasised about their plans to launch the Harrier electric, Sierra EV, Curvv (petrol/diesel + electric) and the Avinya.
With a plan laid out all the way up to FY 2026-27, the Tiago and Tigor were nowhere to be seen in the presentation. In fact, they highlighted the fact that sedans and hatchbacks will continue to lose ground and make room for SUVs. So, we can only hope that these cars go out gracefully without having to spend a good number of months in triple digits.
