In this October 2024 Hyundai car sales analysis, we’ll look at the car sales of Hyundai for the previous month. We’ll also compare the YoY and MoM change to find out which Hyundai cars’ sales improved and which ones declined. To support the trends, we’ll also provide our opinions where applicable. Lastly, the table with monthly sales for the last 6 months will give you an idea about the 6-month sales trend of all Hyundai cars.
‘THE’ IPO
Hey, Hyundai’s IPO recently went live and it’s now trading on the Indian stock market. It was the biggest IPO of India — ever. Unfortunately, that brought with it some questions about its valuation and it struggled to gain enough traction. However, by hook or crook, it somehow managed to come through before the subscription window closed.
Now, it’s difficult to understand why it wasn’t accumulating buyers in its subscription phase. And, if it didn’t have enough buyers at that stage, then why didn't it crash once it went live? It has been trading for several days and it is still hovering pretty much in its IPO price range. Unlike some of the previous ‘big’ IPOs. wink. wink.
While the daily fluctuations are big, its overall movement is like that of a much more mature ticker. Like, Maruti Suzuki. Or MRF. And that’s big praise. We’ll have to see once the lock-in period for institutional investors ends.
One thing is for sure; the extra cash will help Hyundai India run many more experiments than they would have had they not gone public. If you thought Hyundai were too aggressive with product development before, you should get ready to witness a whole new kind of aggression now. Having some cash to burn will allow them enough breathing room to find a white space which is not visible to the naked eye.

Performance-Based Insights
Top 3 Performers (October 2024 Sales)
Here are the top 3 performers in Hyundai's portfolio in the month of October 2024:
Creta (17,497)
Venue (10,901)
Exter (7,127)
Gainers (YoY % Change)
Here are the top 3 YoY gainers of October 2024 in the Hyundai portfolio:
Creta (+33.80%)
Alcazar (+19.98%)
Aura (+17.31%)
It’s easy to understand why the Creta and Alcazar were top gainers. This time last year, they were running on older designs and the 2024 update makes them more attractive propositions this time around than in last festive season. Plus, the Alcazar also got a fantastic features spread and value pricing. But, the Aura jumping more than 17% YoY is beyond us since the segment leader, Dzire, was just days away from a major overhaul!
Top 3 Losers (YoY % Change)
Ioniq 5 (-72.65%)
Verna (-45.01%)
Tucson (-30.20%)
The Ioniq’s loss is understandable (Hint: BYD Seal); but the Verna’s declining demand should be a serious concern for Hyundai. We have come to expect some laid back attitude from the Japanese brands. So, the City’s loss is justifiable. But the fact that the Virtus has defeated the 2 legends (Verna and City) to become the top performer is a surprise. Or a shock — depending on which side of the fence you’re sitting. On top of that, sharing the platform and powertrain with the Slavia means they have had an easier time recovering the R&D expenses and are leveraging economies of scale. Since Kia aren’t planning to sell a sedan here, Hyundai India will have to suffer through this on their own.
And it’s sad, because the Verna has all the ingredients to be the segment leader. It looks good. It has the best-in-class features. Best-in-class performance. Widest sales and service network; for a C-sedan segment. And a good pricing right from day 1.
Gainers (MoM % Change)
Tucson (+43.88%)
Grand i10 Nios (+22.18%)
i20 (+20.91%)
Top 3 Losers (MoM % Change)
Alcazar (-18.73%)
Since MoM change doesn’t mean much in the broader view, we’ll leave it without any comments.
Body-Type Based
Another month of hatchbacks and sedans losing share in Hyundai’s portfolio. Another month of SUVs gaining share. Same old. Same old.
