Who could have imagined that a Lifestyle Offroader could become the best-selling model for an OEM in the Indian market? Mahindra Thar emerged as the highest-selling model in January 2022 and contributed to over 23 percent of Mahindra's volumes last month.
The second-gen Thar was launched in 2020 and reflected Mahindra’s desire to make the model for a mainstream vehicle without compromising on its off-road abilities. Mahindra added more creature comforts to the vehicle such as a 7.0-inch touchscreen infotainment system with Apple CarPlay and Android Auto, roof-mounted weather-resistant speakers, a color multi-info display for the instrument cluster, steering-mounted controls, and cruise control.
Since its launch in 2020, Thar has been a runaway success and has been garnering volumes even much beyond Mahindra's expectations. It also recently launched a brand campaign to strengthen its connect with the millennials, a growing customer base for the All-New Mahindra Thar.
Thar sales grew by 47% YoY and 117% over last month. It surpassed the volumes of XUV300 & Bolero to become Mahindra's best seller for January 2022.
XUV300 ranked second on the list and sold over 4.5k units last month.
