Maruti Suzuki's Brezza emerged as the best-selling car in India for August 2024! The Sub-4m SUV is now consistently overtaking the likes of Nexon, Venue, Sonet, etc. Many first-time buyers are also opting for Sub-4m SUVs hence the spurt of volumes in the segment. Maruti's Ertiga ranked second with dispatches of over 18.5k and YoY growth of 51%. MUVs have been on a roll in CY2024 and is visible in the growth of respective models - Ertiga (51%), Innova/Hycross (12%), and Carens (35%).
Hyundai's Creta was again the best-selling Mid SUV and ranked third in overall. It has a clear lead over other models in the segment (Grand Vitara, Seltos, etc). Maruti's Wagon R followed closely for the fourth spot and registered volumes of 16,450 units. The CNG variant of the Wagon R has got wide acceptance and almost 44% of Wagon R sold in India is now a CNG variant (source).
Tata's best-selling model Punch was India's 5th best-selling car for Aug'24. EV models have been struggling (source) and the decelerating trend should be a cause of concern for Tata Motors.
