Two Wheeler Sales in India is on a recovery mode and recorded monthly dispatches of over 12 Lakh units after 6 months! It is a reflection of improving buyer sentiments and can be attributed to positive signs of monsoon, increased economic activity and fully opening up of educational institutions/offices.
The two-wheeler industry is marching towards normalcy backed by revised fuel prices and the customer sentiments seems to be improving gradually as of now. The industry is hopeful of a complete revival in the festive season and if backed by decent monsoons this year the sales momentum may grow stronger.
Even Two Wheeler Industry wasn't shielded by semiconductor shortage and did cripple the supplies. Atsushi Ogata, MD, President & CEO, HMSI has rightly said, "The market is gaining back strength as disturbances in terms of supply-side are subsiding coupled with rising physical presence at office and educational institutions. The sales figures this month remain incomparable from May 2021 as frequent lockdowns in wake of the second wave marred the performance during this period last year. Growth in domestic as well as international trade continues to complement each other as we approach an early monsoon."
Hero MotoCorp sold 4,66,466 units in May 2022 against 1,59,561 units in May 2021. Hero recorded the highest Market Share fall in May 2022.
Honda Motorcycle & Scooter India’s May 2022 sales was 3,20,857 units compared to the May 2021 sales of 38,764 units. It was also able to reduce its gap from Hero Motocorp and also increase its market share significantly.
TVS Motor Company registered sales of 1,91,482 units in May 2022 and recorded a increase from 52,084 units in May 2021 with growth of 267%. The YoY growth is not comparable due to the low base of sales in May 2021 because of the staggered lockdown imposed by government.
Bajaj Auto’s May 2022 domestic two-wheeler dispatches increased 59% to 96,102 vehicles compared to 60,342 two-wheelers sold in May 2021.
Okinawa & Ather figures have started reflecting in the reports for May 2022. Do note that Okinawa is already selling more than twice of much established Piaggio. Also Ather volumes have rapidly shot up and looks promising with ever increasing network of the OEM.
